The push for innovation and competition is heating up and starting to produce some interesting fodder for the water cooler. Research In Motion CEO Jim Basille was quoted saying, “I don’t know how you can say that we are not in the race,” after a jab from Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, who stated that there are only three major players in the smartphone game and Blackberry was not one of them.

You can probably say that Blackberry has been overshadowed by Android, Apple, and Microsoft in innovation this past year, but I wouldn’t discount them. They remain a mobile tech company with huge market share, albeit declining, and many resources. It’s a pivotal year for Blackberry, for sure, and hopefully we see more innovation than the lackluster Blackberry 6 OS . Nevertheless, the competition is great for the end user and makes for some good entertainment to boot. Let’s get ready to rumble!
